September you were not nice this year! You brought ...
- triple digit heat
- no rain...ok ONE day!
- ankle pain
- neck pain and migraines...partly due to my accident (Part 1 and Part 2)
- eczema flare up for Caleb
- broken fridge
- spoiled food
- broken dishwasher
- damaged roof (thanks to the ONE day of rain)
- broken door knob
October started wonderfully!!!! We had a nice peaceful Saturday. Sunday morning we were greeted with cooler temperatures. Caleb asked me why winter was here already this morning as we were leaving for church. You have to admit when you have spent the last 5 months at or near 100* that 55* feels kind of cold!
Church was really good today! Jason Swiggert sang a solo verse of a hymn in the first service. That was awesome, and totally not a normal thing! Jerrel Altic preached the sermon today. It was one of those that just hit me right between the eyes!!!! Here are the bullet points
- Troubled hearts can become trusting hearts.
- Trust God in the present because the future is secure.
- Trusting in Christ calms our hearts and increases our courage.
Caleb's eczema flare up has been an annoying inconvenience for both of us. Trusting God for healing is not the issue...at least not with me, it is with Caleb. We have been down this road with Josh. That boy was prayed over and prayed for from very early on by people from all walks of life. It is no different for Caleb. Josh looks amazing! I trust God 100% for healing. I have a problem trusting in HIS timing though.
My accident has left me with lots of neck and upper back pain. It has also caused me to have migraines...several a week. It does make it hard to function. I know it will get better, but September has been the worst month for pain since the accident. I trust God for my life, but it is starting to freak me out. It goes back to that out-of-control feeling. I will trust God to bring me through!
Trusting God is what bring that peace. It is hard to describe that peace that you can get only by trusting God. Do you know how many times I have heard, "I don't know how you do it" in relation to the boys eczema? Take a guess and add a bunch of zeroes! Have I cried about it? Sure! Have I worried about it? Sure! We have had some scary moments physically AND mentally. We cried out of God a lot, but I believed God could heal him/them. There was never a doubt in my mind that God could heal him/them. There was just this peace I had about all of it. I have told people before to not have pity on us, just pray. It is what it is for now. I can not change it, but I can pray. We do what we have to do for relief, and we pray. Sure there are times when Caleb's eczema is all consuming (remember Josh has been healed), but we press on and trust God.
What I want to know is why is it easy for me to trust God with my children and their health, but not with finances? God has shown me time and time again. I was "Blessed by a car accident"...remember? I feel blessed in regards to our finances, but having to buy big ticket items like a dishwasher and fridge unexpectedly sends me into a stress fit. It is not like it was an impulse buy. We were able to just buy them, but it was just not where I wanted to spend money. God has provided for us financially over and over again, but this is where I struggle. Can you see my chariots and horses? (Sept 11 sermon)
Courage...I am a chicken! I wanted to try out for a solo (trio background part) today for "Celebration", but I am too chicken. I almost raised my hand, but I lack courage. I can say I do have courage to stick up for my children. It took a while, because I am a painfully shy introvert. I asked doctors hard questions. I verbally disagreed with them. I have "doctor shopped" to find someone whose views lined up with my own. I even told one doctor he was wrong...HA! I trust God with my children, but I don't always trust other people with my children. Josh was 8, or almost 8 when I quit putting full trust in doctors. Can I just tell you that doctors do not like that? I sought out doctors that would give me all the options, but let ME choose the treatment I felt was best for my child. WOW! Did you know those kind of doctors existed? They do, you just have to stand up and find them. I have also stood up for my kids at school. Remember Josh's problem from last year? Sure I was nervous, but I knew I had to do something. Guess what though??? I can't call DirectTV...or anyone else. LOL I make Marc do all of that. I am a big chicken.

October has
- The Texans football
- Josh's football
- Samantha's softball
- Caleb's baseball
- Caleb's 8th birthday (when did that happen?)
- The kids choir gets to sing in church
- Josh's band gets to play at the high school game
- Family Reunion
- Our 14th anniversary
- AND a massage
All good things! I will not dwell and focus on the things of September! I will ignore the fact that I have a pounding headache right now. October is going to be great. I trust God that I will come out of the fire I have been walking through stronger.
