I would love to ask for some prayers for Caleb. His eczema was manageable all summer. That does not mean he wasn't broken out, but he was not miserable and itchy most days. Since school has started, he has slowly gotten worse. Sometimes his face looks like he has a red mustache and beard. He has a few trouble spots on one foot that we have been working on. This last week his eczema has gotten out of control. Caleb has even asked for oral meds before bedtime. He has not had to take medicine before bed regularly since January 2010, so it has been a while. He has never asked to take medicine before, so I know he is miserable. Yesterday he got sent home from school after the nurse had gone through everything to make him feel better. We have several different things for her to do before calling me, nothing worked yesterday. Yesterday was Thursday, and Thursday's are always his bad days. That is because we eat at church on Wednesday nights. It is the only night he does not get home cooking. This week he had a milkshake. His words to me before he started eating were, "I don't care if it makes me itch." He knows...we both do... His nurse expects him to be more broken out on a Thursday.
Anyway, he is worse than he has been in a LONG time. I called to make an appt with his dermatologist. He hasn't been in 18 months. At first they gave me an appointment in the middle of October. Really...if my kid is on the verge of getting an infection (possibly MRSA), do I really need to wait until October? I called the nurse line, and explained the situation. She of course started in with "why are you just now calling?", "why haven't you taken him to his ped?", and stuff like that. REALLY??? No nurse should ever speak to a parent like that! Eczema is not new to me...12 years! I know what steps to take to help manage it. I know when it is time to call a doctor. I am being PROactive in calling BEFORE he gets an infection! I was nice by not saying what I really wanted to say. I went down the check list of what we have been doing. She wanted to know why I haven't been giving his the sleeping medicine....cause it has been 18 months since we have been in!!!! She came to the conclusion that I am doing everything they recommend...duh. She wants me to double up on the wet wraps, and make sure he is getting the medicated cream twice a day. She also scheduled us an appointment for Monday!
Please pray for my little guy. He is just miserable! He absolutely HATES wet wraps! I am uncomfortable giving him sleeping medicine. Last time I did he tried to get up and go to the bathroom. He didn't make it out of his room. He also just fell in the floor and went back to sleep. His dermatologist is wonderful, but she is leaving the clinic next month. She has always been aggressive in the way she has treated BOTH boys eczema. She is the only one who was able to do anything for them. She is the only one who didn't give up on them.
Caleb needs healing! He is frustrated right now. Yesterday he told me he just wanted to have normal skin like everyone else. I told him he would eventually, just like Josh. He then told me that Josh didn't have normal skin. It might look normal, but it doesn't feel normal. He wants his skin to feel smooth like...normal. It broke my heart to hear him say that.
Please feel free to share this. We would appreciate all prayers!
