Week 2

Week 2 is in full swing! We are in a groove and it is GREAT!!!!! I say this as we are in the middle of a disagreement. My 1st grader wants to take Diary of a Wimpy Kid to school. The problem is that Samantha IS reading that book! In his anger he keeps pounding on the piano. sigh..... Aside from this it is going great.

Josh is going to try out for honor band later this week. His mornings are lazy because he leaves an hour after Caleb and Samantha. Last year he used that hour to do his homework, but this year I want his homework done in the afternoon. It is too stressful for ME for him to do it in the morning. It all goes back to me not being a morning person and the last thing I want to do is think. I want to sit and enjoy my coffee.

Caleb, who is still whining about not getting to take the book is doing well. He came home yesterday and sat down for us to go through his homework. I see many arguments in the future though. He just doesn't like doing work with me...or Marc. By the time we got to the end of the spelling list he was unhappy and we were both glad to be done. He doesn't like doing his math puzzle anymore, so I am going to try flash cards. He really is a whiz though.

Samantha is doing great. She got a 100 on her first spelling test. She said it was because we went over her words everyday and we practiced the ones she struggled with. She read a Nancy Drew book last week and we are trying to pick a book to read next. She only has a Hannah Montana book and a Sweet Life book. I am not thrilled about either one of those, so I might be making a trip to the bookstore today.

Hannah is adjusting well to being with me all day. She gets up and gets dressed just like the big kids. After they all leave we leave. She goes and plays at the Y while I run. When we get home she gets 30 minutes of tv while I shower. She LOVES Clifford, The Big Red Dog.

I think I am the one left scratching my head....or pulling my hair out!  I run, do 3 loads of laundry daily, and keep up with housework while they are at school. I also get some Hannah play time in. When they get home we sit at the table for homework. That lasts about an hour...then Josh comes home. I check his homework while listening to him tell me how tired he is. Then I cook dinner and we eat...well most of us. I have 1 kids who screams he doesn't like dinner. If he would actually TRY it I would understand, but he just whines. He usually ends up taking the first bath so we can eat in peace.

OH, I can't forget all the noise instruments being practiced while I cook dinner! It makes for a lot of noise!!!

While the girls are taking their baths, Caleb  and I spend time reading....30 minutes worth. He is then supposed to go rest in his bed while I read to the girls, but aside from tying him to the bed, I don't know how to keep him there. With Samantha we take turns reading. She will read a chapter and I will read a chapter. It has helped her fluency and understanding. I see a better reading year in her future!!! Of course the problem has been me drifting off somewhere around 7:30 while we are reading!!!!! The kids.....(the boys) of course never stay in bed, so they end up staying up too late. I figured it would catch up with them by now, but it hasn't. I have fallen asleep a few times before the boys.

I have more to say, but I have to wrap this post up. I am aiming for an 8 mile run today and need to get ready to go. I will come back and fill you in on my struggle to decide between a Message Bible and the Amplified Bible.....when I have time.
